Taking a Stand on Diversity and Inclusion

Taking a Stand on Diversity and Inclusion

No matter what political nonsense is going down, my coaching practice stands with diversity and inclusion.

Its very heart beats for the women, non-binary folks, and people of color marginalized in a society increasingly hostile to things making sense.

It's not hard to take this stand because, for me, embracing diversity and inclusion means accepting oneself -- a complex person in a complex world.

Also, said another way, my very existence -- as an immigrant woman of color -- itself is a FU to everything the orange clown in office is trying to legitimize: institutionalized hate.

On my podcast: Risky Conversations

Since the inauguration, my newsfeed has been inundated with shocking and frankly upsetting headlines about the new administration's policies targeting women of reproductive age and immigrants.

One part of me wants to stick my head in the sand like an ostrich in shock. But my pragmatic side says: Be aware. Be informed. Be prepared.

Unfortunately, we're likely to see an emboldened wave of discrimination -- against women, immigrants, and people of color -- fueled by this administration.

Which brings me to the latest podcast guest on Risky Conversations -- employment lawyer Anne Donnelly Bush. In the interview, she shares practical, no-nonsense advice for handling workplace discrimination.

She addresses:

  • How to build evidence for discrimination

  • How to challenge performance improvement plans (PIP), and

  • How to use mediation to negotiate better severance packages.

On the podcast: Work from the Inside Out

Fellow executive coach Tammy Gooler Loeb interviewed me on her podcast.

We talked about how my early life experiences as a South Korean immigrant kid in New Jersey shaped my career choices and coaching philosophy -- all the way from early jobs in procurement to jobs in finance and tech to becoming a coach and hypnotist.

We debunk the myth of Tiara Syndrome (i.e. keeping your head down, doing good work, and expecting to be automagically recognized and rewarded with a promotion and raise -- a metaphorical "tiara" as if in a 90's Disney fairytale).
We got honest about how, for me, working in hostile work environments turned out to be the kick-in-the-butt I needed to start taking self-advocacy seriously... And so much more.

I love the title of this podcast: Always Bet On Yourself!
