How to Raise Millions Without Burning Out
Is it even possible?
My client, an executive at a fast-paced AI startup, has ambitions of one day launching her own company.
But for now, she was facing mounting pressure working for someone else, an inexperienced CEO with volatile moods.
The Grind
She came to the session feeling unmotivated and emotionally drained from the intense grind of securing millions in funding, only to face the added pressure of raising even more.
On top of that, personal attacks from the CEO were wearing her down.
The Spicy Question
I looked her in the eye and asked, "Why keep going?"
Entrepreneurial and driven, my client told me she's chasing a feeling. The feeling of accomplishment. The feeling of having arrived.
She believed that raising tens of millions at her current company would give her the confidence to fundraise for her future startup.
But the stress and late nights were taking their toll.
What I Offered Her
The sense of accomplishment is fleeting -- regardless of whether it's millions or tens or even hundreds of millions. The feeling of having arrived is just a momentary high before bigger challenges demand your attention again.
"Yes. That's when I'll burn out for sure," my client could see it happening right before her eyes.
I asked her, "What if no matter what happens here, you could raise all the money -- let's say $100 million -- for your future company?"
"Yeah, that's possible," she said. "Now that I think of it, I've crossed off enough things on my list. I don't need to prove myself with another goal to feel confident."
Where We Landed
She can have confidence now, not later, by choosing to see herself as capable -- as someone with potential and as an equal thought partner to other executives, investors, and the board.
It doesn't mean she quits or does a shoddy job.
Instead, she'll fuel her actions -- NOT with the dirty exhaust of impostor syndrome (i.e., "I've not done enough to feel confident") -- but with the clean and sustainable fuel of self-assurance.
I walked my client through an exercise that leveraged the innate adaptability of her human brain (which is beyond what any AI can do). She entered into a focused state of awareness where she experienced rapid change.
By the end of our session, it was as if a thousand-pound weight had lifted from her shoulders. She left feeling clear, capable, and confident in her next steps.

P.S. "I can't be as confident as my silver-haired male boss who exudes natural charisma."
Or, "I've always struggled with confidence as one of the few people of color, feeling like an outsider in my company."
If you've ever had these thoughts, you're definitely not alone. I'm intimately familiar with them.
The truth is, one of the biggest barriers to building confidence isn't your gender, race, sexual orientation, nor how old you are.
It's the self-imposed pressure we put on ourselves, which often fuels perfectionism, impostor syndrome, and ultimately burnout.
But with the right tools at the right time, you can break free from habits that erode your confidence and build the kind of self-assurance that drives real action toward your career goals.
That’s exactly what my client Kristine Johnson did. She silenced that internal pressure, improved her rapport with her boss, and ended up getting promoted with better pay and more equity compensation.
